MANLY TEARS: Why Your Crying Proves it's Great

Two episodes of screentime is still enough to make you cry for her.
When it comes to storytelling, one of the most important questions to ask is, "Why do I care about this?" Yes, it's a major issue that can make a bad story tug at your heartstrings or a great story put you to sleep: pathos. For those of you who might not be in the know, pathos is a term coined in Greek plays as an appeal to the audience's emotions. In some ways, I think it could be the single most important aspect to telling a good story.

A Call for Collusion: My Thoughts About Fandom

Accurate... But Why?
When you begin to watch how people react to the most popular works on the internet, you start to realize that most of us are very confrontational and bitter people. You might say that I'm hardly one to speak, considering I'm a non-conformist, stubborn, selfish hipster; but that's not actually what I want to be. I want to be someone who can promote good will, and if possible help strengthen the bonds of the anime community (admittedly it's a pipe dream, I just run some random blog where I ramble about Nanoha and stuff, but the aim for an ideal is a beautiful thing). Here, I'd like to call for a truce, a sort of "neutral ground" where we can maybe get by without all these negative sentiments.

Beams Are So... Unisex

Pictured: The "Beam Sample Set"
Everyone knows them, everyone loves them, they're beams. Whether in the form of a single massive blast or a million tiny lines, you can find beams everywhere. And I do mean everywhere. It raises the question of what it is that draws our cultures towards the concept of beams? Well, at the very least I can share my opinion as to why beams are so common in pop culture (and as science advances, real life, too!)

Hajime no Ippo Rising First Impressions

Well, MY anime season is certainly getting more energetic. This (along with Gundam Build Fighters) is the first time in years I've actually decided to watch an anime as it was airing (the last time being Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's). I love Hajime no Ippo and even follow the manga's 1000+ chapters (even though I tend to enjoy my series shorter, I read Ippo religiously). So, what's a fanboy of Ippo think of the new series based on its first episode?

Mission Statement: Where to Start, Where to Start...?

You have to sit through at least five hours of text to get to this point.
Honestly, I'm not entirely sure what direction I want this blog to go. It's mostly for my own benefit, just a place to vent and jot down my musings, but still... It's a tough call, isn't it? You want the first major post within a blog to be a good introduction to the kind of things you'll be producing, while at the same time leaving room to allow your blogging style to grow organically. Well, considering I'm just getting started my obsession with "Fate/Stay Night" (from a certain point of view - I'm already nuts about the franchise, having watched the original anime, Zero, and Carnival Phantasm; played Extra; and halfway through the "Unlimited Blade Works" route of the Visual Novel), I suppose that's a good place to find a jumping off point.

Set Up!

(I couldn't think of any image that would fit an introductory post, what do you want me to do? Post just a bunch of my boring wordy parts?)

Been thinking about getting a blog for a while, if only to let myself vent about various things. Mostly anime rela- who am I kidding, it'll probably ALL be anime-related. Mostly mecha-related. What, exactly, will I write about? Well, whatever comes to mind. Maybe reviews, maybe musing about elements of storytelling, maybe rants.
